in area-Plaka, GreecePlaka is one of the most famous traditional villages in western Crete, in Apokoronas. The village is situated on a hill above Almyrida and offers excellent views of the sea and Souda Bay. It is the ideal destination if you want to spend quiet holidays on the blue sea.
For hikers and nature lovers there are endless olive tree plantations in Plaka that are perfect for hiking, jogging or just for walking and enjoying the wonderful views of the sea or the mountains. Directly over Plaka, in the direction of Kokkino Chorio, which is the nearest village, is the mountain Drapanokefala. There is still a German observatory from World War II.
The view from up there is breathtaking, and even more exciting is the passage through the tunnel that was blown up through the mountain. The walk through the tunnel takes about 4-5 min. I would recommend this adventure for children from 5 years of age (of course accompanied by an adult).
