A true traditional village house of Messara, Crete.
Situated at the outskirts of the perfectly preserved old village Vorroi, next to river Xiropotamos (means dry river and its completely dry during summer). The house was featured as one of the most beautiful traditional homes of Crete, by the Historical museum of Crete in 2000.
The space
The house was renovated in the eighties, strictly preserving the traditional character of the area. It consists of a kitchen/common room with a fireplace, a front yard, a small garden with lemon trees, flowers and avocados. A spacious hall with an old wood oven and trap door hiding a Roman age kiln. A living room with a treadle and a (now sealed) door leading to an underground tunnel that was used during the Turkish occupation. Finally a wooden staircase leads to the bedroom in the first floor and a terrace with an open view to the nature.

Travel Details from the host -> I grew up in Heraklion, Crete, but I live in Athens. I am a Product Manager and with my brother have a small beekeeping company.
