"Grandma's House" is a peaceful place to spend your holiday in Oia,
it is an an ideal retreat for digital nomads and writers.

The house is a Venetian style Captain's Mansion, large, spacious, and faces north to the open sea. It is fifty metres from the main square, grocery shops, takeaways, and the Public Bus Terminal.

The space
"Grandma’s House in Oia", is a Venetian style Καπετανόσπιτο (Captain’s Mansion) built in 1867, in a neoclassical style with Venetian and Renaissance influences. Large, spacious with a back garden, faces north towards the open sea. In 1992, it was listed amongst the 21 protected local Captain's Mansions (ΦΕΚ 61/Α/13-4-92).

“Grandma’s house in Oia” is found in a quarter called Sideras, with large mansions, many of them quite ruined. As you walk in the narrow paved alleyways you can admire many of these houses. Strolling around this part of the village you can enjoy the morning breeze.
I am quoting from the book, “Oia a journey in space and time” by K. Kolymvas: [....Sideras is a quiet quarter where you can still hear the voices of children playing in the alleyways and the brisk exchange of “good mornings” between the locals as they rush to catch the bus. Jasmine and honey suckle hang from the fences …the quarter is the quietest and most interesting neighbourhoods in Oia. Sideras is a lesson in aesthetics a constant reminder of beauty, for despite the destruction what remains is beauty....]

Travel Details from the host -> If I were asked to put only three words next to my name, they would be a “non-nation specific person”. I consider native soil the Balkans and the entire South-Eastern Mediterranean region. That is to say, wherever the sea can reach connecting local cultures is my own home too. Past tense: Our grandmother came from a family of seafarers who traded their wine, produced in their fields, with merchants in tsarist Russia. Her husband, our grandpa, was often away, travelling for more than eighteen months, sometimes two years; consequently, she had to run the household and vineyards by herself. Our grandma’s house was fully renovated in 2012, retaining all the external and internal features of its typical architectural style. Present tense: Nowadays, we are a small family which believes that house renting pertains primarily to HOSPITALITY and less to rental business. Travelling is an experience that ought to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Thus we try to keep our charges as reasonable as possible. Ignoring the ongoing rebuilding process from the rubble that remained from the 1956 earthquake, we made an effort to remain faithful to the local architectural style of Oia. We believe we have created a welcoming, comfortable and inspiring home for our guests. On behalf of my family I extend a warm welcome to you. As for me: I like learning languages and translating. I also spend time drawing and making my own jewellery.
