Nea Hora (meaning ‘new town’ in Greek) was the first modern part to be built outside of the Venetian fortification and wall of Chania in the early 18th Century. In a way it is the oldest part of the modern town. Nea Hora is classed as a fishing harbour and also has a good sandy beach. Nea Hora is a very popular place with the locals as there are some of the best fish tavernas in the city as well as cafes and hotels situated right along the beach front.
