The 11th arrondissement of Paris is an edgy, ethnically diverse area of the city that houses sights such as the Place de la Bastille with its majestic modern operahouse, but also the Place de la République, the Edith Piaf Museum and the Maison des Métallos (former metalworkers' house; currently an arts and culture center).
It's also a huge draw for students and fans of nightlife, offering a disproportionate number of the city's hippest bars and clubs. Oberkampf neighborhood especially has a vibrant nightlife scene, but don't worry: you can't hear anything from the apartment!
There are also many gourmet restaurants and the area has good transport links.
