Three-hundred-year-old whitewashed stone home with garden, renovated since 2010. In the heart of Old Town, perfect for a vacation without a car and for families with kids.

The space
This is the ground floor of a two-story family house, built in 1697. The main entrance into the house passes through a garden crowned by my grandmother's sprawling lemon tree and boisterous assembly of bougainvillea, oleander, hibiscus and pomegranate. The house is wonderfully lit but because of its meter-thick stone walls it stays cool even on hot days. The common room is divided by an arch. There is a modern, very functional full-service kitchen with a counter of local marble for those who want to eat in. There is a comfortable dining table and a single bed that doubles as a sofa.
The bathroom is located through a small stone-walled antechamber that used to be the grape press. The first bedroom has a large double bed. The second bedroom has two full-sized bunk beds.

Our home is the old market area of Paroikia, a small, walkable whitewashed town on the bay, with winding alleys and lovely sea breezes. Everything is in walking distance. You can spend your entire vacation without a car; Paroikia itself has fine beaches and all manner of entertainment. Lovely beaches are accessible by boat from the main town, across the bay, or by boat. If you choose to rent a car, the municipal parking lot is a short walk away.The island is small, so you can quickly reach all its most lovely swimming and historical spots.
