A very charming 100+years old stone home is just 45 mins. by car from Heraklion and 25 mins. down to the beaches ! Spend your day with the locals in the ancient village , take beautiful nature hikes , horseback riding and maybe paragliding too !

The space
The house is traditionally decorated with an equipped kitchenette , pull-out sofabed , small TV , good Wi-Fi and a very efficient wood stove . The enclosed outdoor bathroom with shower has also a washing machine available . The bedroom consists of a stone fireplace , double bed loft and single bed underneath . Guests have the use of the second floor with another full size bed , a terrace with a chiminea firepit where they can sit under the grapevine trellis and relax with the view of the mountains ! Just around the corner you can do your grocery shopping , enjoy a cup of Greek coffee in the square and plan your evening dinner in any of the local tavernas :-)

This enchanting village Of Avdou has tavernas , coffee shops and grocery store all in the main square which is just minutes by foot from the house ! Also there is in the village horseback riding , fantastic trails for hikes , and paragliding . The village sits just 15 kms from the beach, but is a lifetime away from the tourist playgrounds and nightclubs. This is a place to seek peace and quiet, healthy food and the outdoors. Dotted around are fruit trees such as apricots, oranges and tangerines, and the silver-grey of olive groves. Even more exotic fruit such as kiwis grow here, and organic vegetable gardens thrive.

Travel Details from the host -> I am an American woman living on the fabulous Island of Crete for the past 20 years ! Born and raised in Seattle , Washington by Italian parents who are both from Naples , Italy . I have spent many summers in Naples and attended two years of schooling there . I worked as a general manager for many years in my family's chain of Italian restaurants Vince's Italian Pizzeria in Seattle and also opened and ran two design stores ! I am happily married to Emmanuel , who was born and raised in Heraklion , Crete . He later moved to Canada and then to the U.S. where he became an engineer for Boeing for nearly 20 years in Seattle . We both love Crete and we are thrilled to show people all her magic and natural wonders . We enjoy sharing the seasonal fruits from our garden , our yearly fresh olive oil , and our homemade wine . We also have olive oil soap made from our olive oil for all our guests :-)
