Tour Itinerary presented by Travel Curious

Stroll through handsome cobbled streets of statuesque buildings, almost half of which is owned by Cambridge University, which is truly inseparable from the city itself, with 31 colleges and 150 academic departments.

See Peterhouse, the very first college which was founded in 1284 by Hugo de Balsham, the Bishop of Ely. 15 more colleges followed before a pause for a couple of centuries, all founded by various distinguished personages such as bishops, aristocrats and royalty.

See the outside of Trinity College - which was opened by King Henry VIII and is famous for its Great Gate; and Queens’ which was founded by two queen consorts of England, Margaret of Anjou and Elizabeth Woodville (hence the hanging apostrophe!)

Visit King’s College Chapel – world-famous for its Gothic architecture and outstanding choir, with entrance tickets included.

Walking past the many colleges both young and old, you’ll get a sense and feel for Cambridge, the city, the university and the students as you hear how the newest colleges were founded in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the female college of Newnham now the oldest surviving women’s college, and Churchill College, founded by Winston. Learn about Cambridge’s famous alumni, including Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Bertrand Russell, Alan Turing, and Lord Byron.
