Kolonaki is considered an upscaled area, a wonderful, sophisticated cosmopolitan neighbourhood full of nice little bars, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, museums, a shopping district, very safe, close to the historic centre (one metro station or 15 minutes walk from Syntagma square). It is an urban living area, so it is not packed with tourists, very popular to Athenians. It is located below Lycabettus hill, where you can go up with a small "train" and have one of the nicest views of Athens. It is also very convenient for people who are coming to Athens to visit or escort their family members in the nearby hospitals (Evangelismos, Nimits, NNA, Ippokrateio, Agios Savvas), or foreign exchange students, as both the American and English school are within walking distance.
