The district was named after the Greek revolutionary fighter of 1821, General Ioannis Makrygiannis and nowdays especially ,after the construction of the modern museum of Acropolis and the pedestrian street of DIonisiou Aeropagitou, its not just the historical center but also a cultural and gastronomic one. A neighborhood that one can find a hudge variety of shops and restaurants ranged fron a gallery of contemporary art to traditional greek taverns side by side with restaurants with international and vegan kitchen.
