The villa is located in the beautiful Aptera village, 2.5km away from its world famous ancient archaeological site. The property is situated in a peaceful and secluded part of the village but is still only a 15-minute drive from busy Chania. The unique positioning of the villa means that it benefits from breathtaking scenery and views, especially at sunset and sunrise.

One of the most prominent attractions of the area near Villa Amalia is the archaeological site of ancient Aptera about 2,5km to the east. Aptera is a site in western Crete, a kilometre inland from the southern shore of Souda Bay, about 13 kilometres east of Chania.

With its highly fortunate geographical situation, the city-state was powerful from Minoan through Hellenistic times, when it gradually declined. It was destroyed by an earthquake during the 7th century. By the 12th century, a monastery of St. John Theologos had been built on the site; it continued in operation until 1964.
