in area-Nikia, GreeceNikia is a beautiful village built up on the edge of the volcanic rim.
Here you will find several good taverns and cafés, which serve traditional food, sweets, drinks and beverages.
The main square of the village (Porta), where the church of Eisodion tis Theotokou [Presentation of Virgin Mary] is located was awarded as one of the 10 most beautiful squares of the world! The floor has been attractively paved in pebbles, and is the start of the steep path to the volcano. It takes about 40 minutes to cross the volcano on foot. There are several other beautiful paths for walking and hiking beginning from the village.
Don't forget to visit the volcanological museum in Nikia.
For your grocery shopping you will have to drive to Mandraki. The baker and greengrocer drive up to the village several times during the week though.
