The castle stands on the site of a Roman fort, which was destroyed by King Henry I. The town is near the southern edge of the county, on the River Thames. Windsor was founded in 912 AD by Edward the Elder as part of a royal estate. It grew as a commercial centre during the late 11th and early 12th centuries when it became one of Britain's first walled towns.

The Tudor mansion house of Hampton Court Palace is the best example of a royal 'palace in the country' in England. A palace in the country is a house or grand residence which is kept by a monarch or his/her family outside the main palace complex, usually for weekend and holiday use. The Tudor palace was built for Henry VIII in 1514-16. Hampton Court Palace is one of the best preserved examples of Renaissance architecture in London and is a World Heritage site.

The beautiful Hampton Court Park is located in South London, near Kingston, Surrey and Kingston upon Thames. The park is perfect for picnics or a family day out. The best time to visit is in the evening, when the whole park is lit up with lanterns

Hampton Court is an 11th-century moated manor house and one of the most famous Elizabethan houses in the world. From Tudor times until now, Hampton Court has had a fascinating history with many famous residents. The Tudor period was particularly rich with the patronage of kings and queens. There are many royal visits to Hampton Court, including to mark Elizabeth’s official coronation and Henry VIII’s death in 1547. The moated manor house is a series of courtyards, cloisters, and gardens surrounding a tree-covered courtyard. The house was originally built in the 13th century, with later additions and alterations by successive owners. The Tudor mansion was restored after a fire in 1997-98.

You can experience the grandeur of Hampton Court by getting there by car in about 50 minutes. The 22 km journey will take you outside London, but you'll get to see some beautiful views as well.
