Kirkstone Pass is the highest mountain pass in the Lake District. It is at an altitude of 1,489 feet and is open to motor traffic connecting Ambleside in the Rothay Valley to Patterdale in the Ullswater Valley. In places, the gradient is 1 in 4. Probably the Lake District’s most impressive Pass providing picturesque views to Brothers Water on the descent to Patterdale.

Take a cruise on one of the area’s most picturesque lakes, aboard either MY Raven or MY Lady of the Lake both belonging to the largest fleet of heritage vessels in the world.

Allow your historic interests to be fulfilled at one of the most beautiful and impressive stately houses in the North West of England. Experience the glorious confusion of winding passages, quaint stairways and unexpected rooms. With its original hand-painted wallpaper, furniture and fittings, you will find many examples of fine furniture and portraits. Very much a family home and still occupied by the same family who have lived there for more than 300 years.

Dramatic ruins, gardens within gardens, an adventure playground to rival the best in the land. For visitors young and old (and four-legged), Lowther Castle offers plenty to enjoy. Lowther Castle is now one of the most intriguing visitor attractions in the country, full of stories, many of these are told in the exhibition ‘the Story of Lowther’. Exploring, through the ruins, through the gardens and woodland, you will find plenty more to ignite the imagination.

Explore the Abbey ruins, founded in the late 12th century and seated in the secluded and beautiful valley of the river Lowther. Once one of 32 religious houses in Britain belonging to the Premonstratensian order of canons. Today the impressive 15th century tower and other remains illustrate daily monastic life of the past.
