Tour Itinerary presented by Compass Holidays

Arrive in Ravenglass

Enjoy a circular walk around the Ravenglass coast. During the walk pay a visit to Munster Castle, the stately home of the Pennington family since 1208, complete with its extensive gardens and historic furnishings. You will also be able to visit the World Owl Trust with its collection of over 150 birds. Stay overnight in Ravenglass. No luggage transfer required.

Linear route from Ravenglass to Santon Bridge

Walk from Ravenglass to Santon Bridge, a traditional and tranquil Cumbrian Hamlet. Follow the River Esk upstream where it flows from the steep rugged flanks of Scafell Pike down through woods to broad green pastures near the coast. This walk encompasses the full range of Lakeland scenery from rural to rugged to enjoy. Stay overnight at Santon Bridge. Luggage will be transferred.

Circular Route from Santon Bridge

Enjoy a circular walk from Santon Bridge exploring Wasdale, the Lakeland's most secluded and unspoilt valley. It is bleakly beautiful and is surrounded by England's highest mountains, the Scafell's, Great Gable and Pillar. Wasdale also has England's deepest lake and also England’s smallest church. The classic view across Wast Water to Great Gable is used as the logo for the National Park and is often missed by visitors arriving by car so keep your eyes peeled. Stay overnight at Santon Bridge. No luggage transfer required.

Linear route from Santon Bridge to Boot

Leave Santon Bridge on a linear walk to the totally undiscovered and unexplored tiny village of Boot. Boot is the most populous village in the Eskdale Valley and was an important local centre for ore mining in the 19th century. Eskdale Mill in the village provides a working example of a corn mill. The walk makes a gradual climb past the picturesque Blae Tarn to a high point with traditional Lakeland views. Stay overnight in Boot. Luggage will be transferred.

Circular Route from Boot

Take a circular walk from Boot up Hardknock Path to a Roman fort. The walk then drops down into the valley and joins part of the grim route between Boot and the smallest church where the villagers took their dead. Stay overnight in Boot. No luggage transfer required.

Linear route from Boot to Ravenglass

Enjoy a final linear walk from Boot to Ravenglass via Muncaster Fell. The joys of Lakeland walking in miniature as the terrain looks deceptively mountainous but only rises to 750 feet. Stay overnight in Ravenglass. Luggage will be transferred.
