Travel Details from the host -> I am Italian and Greece is my second home. In the ‘90s my partner and I bought a sea-front land in Rhodes, Apolakkia’s bay, with the intention to build our house there. When we found out that a big thermo-electrical power plant was going to be constructed on the beach, nesting site of the sea turtle Caretta Caretta, we started collaborating with the Rhode’s Club for the Protection of the Environment, a team of searchers (from Universities of Athens and Rome and Chelon) and the BRITISH Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV). Our work contributed to safeguard the local natural environment, that was included in the European network ‘Nature 2000’. In 2001 I completed the construction of the Ecovilla (as far as I know the first straw bale house in Greece), and in 2007 the Cottage. I inaugurated the Ecovilla by offering free hospitality to the children in need of the Greek association ‘Hamoielo tou pediou’. For over 20 years, I've been engaged in humanitarian and development work with the Red Cross and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Afghanistan, Yemen, South Sudan and other countries. I currently chair pro bono Nove Onlus (Website hidden by Airbnb) an Italian NGO supporting the most vulnerable people, especially women, children and disabled persons. I invest part of the revenues from the Ecovilla and the Cottage in Nove Onlus’ activities and I support volunteers planting trees in Rhodes’ burnt areas. I made the choice not to have tv and wi-fi, because most of my guests want a break from the online routine. However, if you need to be online there is network coverage, which makes easy the usage of smartphone as an hotspot. Glikorizo (Licorice in English) is a place of peace and relaxation, where I've written two of my books. I am happy to share it with people who love and respect nature. If you seek a holiday out of the schemes, this is the perfect place for you. Here you can experience the sound of waves and crickets, enchanting smells, the view of the sunset and starry skies, the discreet presence of wild animals and the company of our friendly dogs, cats and chicken, running free in the garden.
