In this walking tour of Westminster and the National Gallery, you will be visiting landmarks and famous museums. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells as you walk from Westminster Abbey to Trafalgar Square, then to National Gallery. Westminster Abbey is the ultimate destination for a historic visit. The building was completed in 1045 with the first stone being laid by King Edward, who later buried his wife on this site. When you enter the abbey from Victoria Street, you will hear its famous "Toc-toc" bell ringing. Walk north through Green Park and turn down Horse Guards Avenue, cross Whitehall and proceed up Horse Guards. Turn right onto Northumberland Avenue and walk east to the National Gallery, which stands on the left. The building is baroque style palace that was constructed between 1711 and 1756. The National Gallery has the best collection of paintings in the United Kingdom. There are more than 3,000 paintings in the gallery's permanent. Entrance tickets are not included.

The Abbey and its grounds have been owned by succeeding religious orders since 1066 and the 600-acre site is now owned by the Crown. Henry III was buried in Westminster Abbey on his death in 1272.

Trafalgar Square is a public square in the City of Westminster, Central London. It was laid out to commemorate the victory of Britain and her allies at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It is bounded on the north by Whitehall, on the east by Charing Cross Road and on the south by The Mall.
