Kastellos is one of the villages of Georgioupolis, at the northeastern side of the prefecture of Chania. The Turkish invasions in the area of Kastellos stopped in 1835, when the Turks were overwhelmingly defeated in a battle. The residents of Kastellos, however, have also demonstrated heroic resistance against the German occupation during the Second World War.
