Neighborbood Overview:

Daytime. Lots of hip clothing and art stores in the area. On the weekends, the local streets are closed to cars but all shops and restaurants are open. Walking distances to Notre-Dame, Pompidou art centre (Beaubourg), Picasso museum (amazingly recently refurbished), Marché des enfants rouges (oldest local market in Paris), Place des Vosges and de la Bastille, a boulangerie with excellent croissants, many supermarkets and a minimarket with only cooked frozen food...
Nighttime. There are a lot of popular bars and restaurants very nearby that are frequented by the locals. They are open late and they are busy. Great for getting your party on.
The area feels very safe. No problem for a single woman to walk around at night.
