Lake Kournas, 3 km from Georgioupolis, is the southern lake of whole Europe. It is created thanks to the underground water coming down from Lefka Ori and is trapped by the impervious rocks within the natural basin.Lake Kournas is actually the only large natural lake in Crete and is located in an enchanting landscape, surrounded by high mountains and olive groves which constitute a very important ecosystem for Greece.
