The cosmopolitanism of the city is evident as locals, tourists and immigrants all intermingle in the vicinity.
Miaouli Street is primarily a trading place for leather and footwear items during the day, with various cafes and small restaurants providing an outlook to the local commercial activities. From the early afternoon, however, the cafes, restaurants, and bars attract a wide variety of people who want to smoke nargileh (oriental tobacco pipe), eat mezze (selection of small dishes) and drink tsipouro or have a drink and dance at the bars. Finally, in recent years Athens has become a sort of graffiti Mecca and the neighborhood is one of the main areas in Athens where one can observe the transformation of old or abandoned buildings by young street artists.

Travel Details from the host My name is Stratis and I grew up in Athens. I have traveled extensively and lived in England, the US, Syria and Lebanon while studying Anthropology and History. I returned to Athens just when the financial crisis struck hard and I have found myself being involved in the Miaouli8 project. Miaouli8 is a collection of lofts and spaces situated in an industrial building built by my grandfather in the mid 1960s. The listings that I am hosting are the outcome of an inventive effort to revive the unused spaces of the building. Using old family furniture, second hand vintage objects from flea markets and a lot of personal work, we have transformed these former craft spaces into modern Athenian apartments.
