in area-Kefalas, GreeceKefalas is located 30 km east of Chania, in the region of Apokoronas, with a population of 700 inhabitants. It is built in a privileged position at an altitude of 352 m, with amazing view of both Leuka Ori mountain range and the Cretan Sea. It is a wonderful traditional village with impressive old churches and local architecture which preserves elements of early and late Ottoman domination. There is grocery store, super market, traditional cafes and taverns. Within 2 km distance from the village there is the bay of Obroyalos with the colorful sea, the sandy beach of Georgioupolis is a 15 minute drive but there are a few more secret beaches to discover.
You can also taste cheese and dairy products, fine meat, good wine, virgin olive oil, traditionally cooked snails, the famous “gamopilafo” (wedding pilaf) which is goat meat and turkey with rice, “staka” which is made from the residue of clarified butter with an addition of flour, grapes and also figs.
