okino Horio is a traditional Cretan village in the mountains with 2 tavernas selling local food and a small grocery store. The film Zorba the Greek was filmed here. Just outside the village is a small beach in a quiet cove which is secluded, picturesque and perfect for snorkeling and diving.The nearest taverna is a 10 minute walk from the Villa.
The Blue Flag sandy beaches of Almyrida Bay are only a 10 minute (3 mile) drive from the house. The beaches here are very safe for children as they shelve very gently into the sea. There are over 20 restaurants, bars and shops and you can also rent kayaks, windsurfs, sailing boats & bicycles.

There are no large hotels and so Almyrida has a quiet environment that livens up in the evening as the beach front restaurants and bars fill up with diners.

The bigger seaside town of Kalives with beaches, restaurants, bank and supermarket is a further 10 minutes drive from Almyrida
