in area-Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, FranceWelcome in Grange-Blanche Montchat, one of the oldest quarter of town. The nice castle of Montchat (XVIth century) was one of the residences of Christina, Queen of Sweden. Due to its history, Montchat has kept a homely atmosphere : we call it "the village in Lyon".
The neighborhood is quiet, mostly filled with families. There is a plenty of open areas and parks, of which the park Chambovet. It used to be the private garden (5 hectares) of René Tavernier, a French writer who hid the communists and famous writers Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet during the war (1941-43). A workers gardening lot has been build in 1926 next to the park : from there you have a very nice viewpoint on the city.
Near to the city center, but friendlier and quieter, it is a very secure neighborhood even by night.
