Just a stones’ throw from this apartment is the House of Eleftherios Venizelos who was a great political influencer of the early 1900s. At the end of the 19th Century this small neighbourhood was actually a town and there were many wealthy people who lived there. Remnants of this great and colourful past can be seen through the buildings and great houses in this area.
The area of coastline in the region of Halepa is called Tabakaria and it dates back to the Turkish occupation and name meaning Tanneries. This charming area was once full of 80 tanneries in the 1950s but now are all but abandoned.
