Travel Details from the host Vaso‘s house is located in Ano Patissia, approximately 3 km from the center of Athens and in proximity to public transport stations (bus and metro). Patissia is a historic district of Athens. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century many wealthy Athenians chose this area to built their summer houses. For this reason one sees many neoclassical houses with the distinctive architecture of this period. These neoclassical summer houses with gardens consisted the first garden district of Athens, parts of which one can still recognize to date. Vaso’s house is located in the center of this area (Kypriadou) which is situated very close to the Center but not inside the busy tourist area. Patission street starts from the center of Athens (it is the extension of Aiolou street which leads to Acropole) and divides Patissia in two areas. Ano Patissia (Upper side Patissia), where Vaso’s house is located, retains many of the characteristic elements of the old Athens (houses with gardens, squares, green sides). Kato Patissia (Lower side Patissia) underwent a rapid urbanization during the 1950’s and today in some parts the effects of the economical crisis are quite evident. Ano Patissia during the 1980’s and 1990’s was a reference point for the rock stage with many of the classical rock spots still in operation, very close to Vaso’s house. Patission street is of historical significance for Greece’s contemporary political history. The Polytechnic school and the School of Economics are located on this street, the universities from which the riot against the dictatorship commenced (in 1973). Vaso’ s house was originally one of these summer villas and was renovated in 1987. The ground floor is built from stone and thus particularly cool during the summer months! It retains many of the characteristics of the old architectural style, with tall ceilings, spacious rooms and a lemon tree garden.
