Neighborbood Overview:

Historically, during the 19th century, the area of the Batignolles had an active cultural life, and it served as a base for the painters, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas who lived and socialized here. They actually became known as the "groupe des Batignolles". The poet Paul Verlaine spent his youth in the Batignolles, as did the French composer and singer Barbara who resided in the area. Last but not least, the Belgian singer Jacques Brel, a resident of the Batignolles wrote his hit "Ne me quitte pas" here.

Today, the area is newly fashionable yet offers a quiet village like feel. It is extremely dynamic as far as ecology and the arts go.
