It's a great location, away from the crowds yet still very French, safe and generally hassle-free. People are down to earth here and friendly, and because there are quite a few schools around, it has a family feel. There are great transport links for getting around. While the rue des Martyrs, the shopping artery, is getting trendier, it still has a local feel, and the fresh food on sale is tremendous.

It's a nice walk up to the leafy streets of Montmartre, which has views over all Paris. There is a farmers' market on Friday afternoons at the top of my street, a pool, a couple of yoga centres -- and for some reason, tons of guitar stores close by in the rue de Douai.

Travel Details from the host -> This has been my home for more than a decade and this is a great arrondissement - I hope you love it as much as i do. It may look the same but it is always evolving as new businesses arrive, develop and change. It's practical and peaceful, with the energy of the city and its indefinable Frenchness right at your fingertips. The concert venues in the old music halls that dot the boulevard between Anvers and the Moulin Rouge, for instance, are just a stone's throw away, and if you are a guitar fan i think i counted 14 guitar stores along the rue Victor Masse/rue de Douai. I'm a writer and journalist and have lived in a few other countries where hospitality is an art form, so I hope you find everything you need to make you feel that this is your home away from home.
