Please note attractions are busy at peak periods and we recommend booking at least 48 hrs in advance Your York Passes open the gateway to adventure and they include a 24-hour ticket for the City Sightseeing Bus and City Cruises York’s River Cruise. How many pubs in Britain can boast a 2,000-year-old Roman Bath house in the cellar? Descend 5 metres below the bar room and into the world of legionaries. Excavated in 1930 while digging a new cellar. A modern steel walkway suspended above the ancient remains now takes visitors through the Trepidarium (warm room) Caldarium (hot steam room) and Frigidarium (cold plunge room) before returning to the modern world and perhaps a drink at the bar!

Once the dining hall of the Vicars Choral of York Minster, Bedern Hall is one of York’s true hidden gems, tucked away off busy Goodramgate. As well as being a popular wedding venue, we are open to visitors with new interpretation, display and family activities. We look forward to sharing our eclectic mix of over 700 years of history. From songmen to squirrels, priests to pork pies, you can find them all in our hidden Medieval hall!

The Bar Convent opened as a Catholic girls’ school in 1686, at a time when the faith was still banned in England. Our interactive exhibition tells of the convent’s long history. You can also visit our stunning 250-year-old secret chapel and enjoy the peace of our walled garden, an oasis in the heart of York.

Generations of the Howard family have welcomed visitors to Castle Howard, one of the great palaces of Europe, for over 300 years.

DIG gives kids the chance to dig, delve and discover exciting artefacts from York’s history! With four special indoor excavation pits filled with replica Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian finds, children can grab a trowel and explore how people lived in these key periods of York’s past. DIG offers a unique archaeological adventure to set children on their way to becoming real archaeologists!
