At the northwestern foothills of Mountain Idi, at an altitude of approximately 380 m and in 10 min walking from the villa, there is the ancient city of Eleftherna. Today, ruins from different historic periods of ancient Eleftherna are rescued.

Eleftherna is supposed to be the 'next big thing' on Crete's archaeological map. A brand new museum is open since 2015 along with the archaeological site itself.

Last but not least, for those who want to get the most of it: Cycling or walking excursions by following the E4 path Arkadi – Eleftherna – Margarites. Each destination has its own beauty. Total path length: 12km, duration 4.5 hours, suggested period: all year round, difficulty level: the gradients are not steep, yet the route is quite tiring.
