Tour Itinerary presented by Cotswold Exploring

Combining the beauty of Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon with a drive through some of the most breathtaking scenery of the North Cotswolds, our tour heads west from Oxford. We start with a visit to Burford, the 'gateway to the Cotswolds' with its sloping main street and quirky shops and cafes.

After a refreshment break, we leave Burford and drive through some of the old quarrying villages of the North Cotswolds to Bourton-on-the-Water. Bourton-on-the-Water is often called the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'. Time to enjoy wandering along the river with its old stone bridges or have a refreshment in one of the many cafes.

The next stop is in the idyllic village of Snowshill with its beautiful honey coloured stone cottages and quaint church and stunning views of the Cotswold escarpment in the background. Here you will get the best Cotswold picture you could wish to take!

From Bourton-on-the-Water we head further into the North Cotswolds and take a panoramic drive through the beautiful old wool town of Chipping Campden (one of the homes of the Arts and Crafts Movement in the Cotswolds) with its golden stone buildings.

We drive through some spectacular scenery to arrive in Stratford-upon-Avon. Our short panoramic tour of Shakespeare’s home town will take you past charming timber-framed houses and some of the houses associated with William Shakespeare. Time to visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace (optional) and see the Shakespeare theatres on the banks of the picturesque River Avon.

Leaving Stratford, we head to Shottery where you can do an optional visit of Anne Hathaway’s cottage with it's beautiful gardens and romantic "half-moon" seat.

We return to Oxford via the lovely town of Woodstock, the site of Blenheim Palace, home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.
